Delegate to Create Time

Delegation is a strategic move, not just a way to free up time.

Here’s an approach to this hairy problem, mostly for Latina executives who are wired to be everything to everyone:
1. Prioritize Time for Strategic Input: What are your long-term goals for the company? How much time and effort shall I dedicate to it? How delegation plays a critical role in creating that space.
You’ve got big ideas for where the company should be in five or ten years, but you’re stuck in the weeds. What can you pass along to your team so you can spend more time mapping out the future?
2. Strengthen Personal Brand: Delegation is a way to sharpen your leadership brand. By empowering your team, you’ll not only be seen as a strategic thinker but also as someone who invests in people.
When you delegate, you’re showcasing your leadership. People start to recognize you as the one setting the vision and empowering others to succeed. That enhances how others perceive your leadership.
3. Develop Talent: Effective delegation helps them nurture talent within the company, which strengthens the overall leadership pipeline.
By delegating, you’re not just getting things off your plate—you’re giving your team the chance to step up, learn, and grow. This builds their skills and makes the entire team stronger in the long run.
A practical starting point to build your delegation muscle includes identifying which tasks/ projects/ interactions can be delegated and selecting team members with the capacity to take them on. You could also discuss ways to follow up with those team members to ensure accountability without micromanaging.
Delegation has a positive impact in how you are perceived as a strategic force in the organization, that builds sustainable talent to affront future challenges.
All of this while upgrading and refining your personal brand. Not bad, right?
